A Little Bit About
History of Wickes
Many think Wickes was a UK originated business but it was actually founded in Flint, Michigan, USA by Henry Dunn Wickes and his brother Edward Noyes Wickes in 1854.
It started out making and supplying automotive, industrial and home improvement products. They revolutionised the logging industry in states by developing the Wickes gang saw.
The first venture into the UK and Europe was in 1972 when the company formed The Wickes Corporation. The first DIY store opened in Manchester and enthusiastic DIYers and trades people flocked. Growth came with housing booms and Wickes was purchased by Travis Perkins Group in 2004. Along the way Wickes consumed the Focus DIY chain of stores.
