About Savers

Savers Drugstore as it was then known opened it’s first store in Durham in 1988. It wasn’t until 1996 that they were renamed Savers Health and Beauty. The following year the company had expanded to 28 shops. In 1998 they opened their first central distribution centre in Darlington northern UK.
The millennium saw things really go big for Savers, with the business acquiring the Supersave chain of stores to take Savers to 114 stores. Time came for the customary take overs to come in. The company was sold in 2000 to Hong Kong based conglomerate AS Watson who’s mother company is CK Hutchison Holdings. They took Savers to 168 shops by the end of the year. The Perfume Shop and Superdrug the similar value health and beauty retailer is a sister company to Savers and also under the same Hong Kong holding conglomerate.
