Dixons Retail owned both Currys and PC World after Dixons merged with Carphone Warehouse and became Dixons Carphone the two electrical retail brands became one, Currys PC World.

History of Currys PC World

PC World was the first computer superstore of its kind in the UK. It was a stack em high sell them cheap type of computer retail concept that proved very successful for the founder Jan Murray. He is a British technology entrepreneur who started PC World in 1991 and within two years had four of the largest computer superstores in and around London. This went on to grow to the rest of the UK and reached an annual turnover of £50m in 1992. In February 1993 he cashed in and sold PC world and another company he owned (Internet Technology Group) to the Dixons Group for £9 million. Dixons Retail carried on the expansion and acquired other computer stores one of them being Byte Computer Superstores. In 2014 after the merger of Dixons Retail and Carphone Warehouse the mother company became Dixons Carphone. The PC World brand and Currys Electrical joined retail forces to create the Currys PC World brand.
