A Little About
History of Euro Car Parts
Euro Car Parts grew out of a small auto parts shop in Willesden London. It was founded by Sukhpal Singh Ahluwalia in 1978, so a long and solid history of selling car parts. Sukhpal is a Ugandan born British Indian business man. He left Uganda with his parents when aged 13 to escape Idi Amin’s oppressive regime.
Ahluwalia borrowed £5,000 from Barclays bank and his father to set up a car parts shop in London called Highway Autos. Later to change the name to Euro Car Parts. At first the focus was on selling German car parts like BMW, VW and Porsche. Gradually they developed into suppling parts for all makes and models od cars and light commercial vans. They now in 2019 have over 200 stores and distribution points across the UK and Ireland. Stocking and selling more than 130,000 vehicle parts and accessories and this number is continually increasing.
In 2011 Sukhpal Singh Ahluwalia sold Euro Car Parts to US based LKQ Corporation for £225m. This was subject to them paying an increase of £55 million if sales performance targets were reached. He left the company briefly but came back to be the UK Executive Chairman of LKQ businesses in the United Kingdom. In 2016 Euro Car Parts saved Andrew Page another automotive parts distributor with a long history from administration. Although many of its locations have been closed.
Cars are built from many assorted parts and when your car develops a problem it can be an expensive and inconvenient time. Taking it to a garage is completely a hit and miss mission. You could get a mechanic who has a passion for his profession and loves to resolve mechanical issues at a fair price. Then again you could come across a mechanic who walks round your car humming and harring figuring out how much more he or she can charge you.
Motor mechanics usually charge by the hour this can vary wildly depending on area, also for no particular reason. When a garage orders parts for your car they will often mark up on parts. This means they will add a percentage on the overall price. Not sure why, if its because of the time it takes to order the part. Recent research shows the range of mark-up on parts can be between 100% and 25% so a lot of money to be made.
Serving your own car
Basic mechanical jobs on your car can be done by a competent diy mechanic. Undertaking a service on your car, changing the air, fuel filter and oil change are well within the clutch of a keen and capable DIYer. Buying your own parts to fix your car yourself or for a mechanic to do the repair can be cheaper. Some mechanic will not use the customers parts and will cite warranty and insurance issues.
The options for buying new car parts are firstly OEM Original Equipment Manufacturer made by the official manufacturer of a vehicle. Secondly there is aftermarket parts this is any part for a car that is not sourced from the maker of the car.
Londoners pay the most for their car repairs with the NorthWest paying the lowest prices.
