A Little About

History of Crocus

Like all great business ideas Crocus.co.uk came from a need to resolve a problem. That problem was discovered by Peter Clay when he had major difficulties sourcing plants for his planned home garden in Herefordshire. Peter Clay who initially went to agricultural college got together with an old friend Mark Fane who ran a landscape business in Surrey. They went out for a curry and over a lamb madras came up with the concept of an online nursery. Crocus.co.uk was co-founded by Mark and Peter in 2000 when the Crocus.co.uk website was launched. Initially the project was financially backed by venture capitalist starting in 1999. The website as grown into the biggest gardening portal in the UK supplying a substantial choice of plants.
